Blob0 vs Dropshare: Share a New File or Manage the Bucket Behind It?
Dropshare and Blob0 both work with your own R2 or S3 storage. Learn when capture-to-link sharing fits and when a bucket browser fits.
Publisher disclosure: This comparison is written by the team behind Blob0. Product descriptions were checked against the linked sources on October 31, 2026. We have not run a controlled performance test of the two apps.
If your work starts with a screenshot and ends with a link in a message, Dropshare is built around that path. It sits in the Mac menu bar, captures or accepts a file, uploads to a storage service you choose, and prepares a link to share. Blob0 starts from the other end of the workflow: you open an existing Cloudflare R2 or S3-compatible bucket, find and manage objects, and share one when needed.
Neither product requires you to hand your files to the other company's storage for every upload. Dropshare's feature page says uploads go directly to the configured provider; Blob0 connects to the storage account you supply. You still need to consider the provider's charges, permissions and public-access settings.
What changes in daily use?
| Daily question | Dropshare | Blob0 |
|---|---|---|
| I just made a screenshot. How fast can I send it? | Screenshot, annotation, screen recording and upload-to-link are central features. Its menu-bar workflow is designed for this task. | You can upload a file and create a link, but Blob0 is not a screenshot capture or annotation app. |
| Can I use my own R2/S3 storage? | Yes. Its availability matrix lists Cloudflare R2 and S3-compatible connections on macOS. | Yes. R2 is the first-class preset; other S3-compatible provider presets are available. |
| Can I send a temporary private link? | Its release notes document S3 presigned download URLs, and the feature page lists secure download links. Check the current app and provider configuration for your desired expiry. | Blob0 generates presigned links with a selected expiry or uses a configured public/CDN domain. |
| Can I inspect and organize an existing bucket? | Dropshare emphasizes uploads, link delivery and upload history. Check its current app for the exact object operations you require. | Browse prefixes, preview supported files, transfer, rename, move, copy and delete objects, and inspect a storage dashboard. |
| Do I need a mobile workflow? | Dropshare documents iOS and Android apps; features vary by platform. | Blob0 is currently a Mac desktop client. |
The comparison is about the work you do most often, not which product has a longer list of features. Dropshare also has integrations and an MCP route, so it would be inaccurate to present Blob0 as the only agent-friendly option.
Choose Dropshare for capture-to-link
Keep Dropshare if your main action is taking a screenshot, marking it up, recording a short video, and sending a link without opening a file manager. Its capture tools, menu-bar access, multiple destinations and mobile companions are meaningful advantages for that path. Blob0 does not replace its annotation editor, screen recorder, or mobile apps.
Dropshare already supports R2 and S3-compatible storage. You do not need to change clients merely to upload a screenshot to your own R2 bucket. Review its R2 setup route before assuming your current connection needs migration.
Choose Blob0 for the files already in the bucket
Blob0 fits a different repeating task: open a bucket, find an older asset, preview it, download or move it, upload a revision, then create a time-limited link for a recipient. The app displays folder-like prefixes and a storage dashboard, while its CLI uses saved profiles and Keychain-stored credentials for object operations. See the R2 client overview and CLI guide.
The current free plan lets you keep one connection. If you manage several buckets or providers, check Blob0 pricing for the multi-connection license. That is separate from what you pay your storage provider.
A practical side-by-side test
Use a small, non-sensitive test file in a bucket you control. First, send it from a Dropshare upload path and note how the link is prepared. Then open the same bucket in Blob0, find both that file and an older object, preview what the app supports, and create a new temporary link. Test link expiry in the recipient's browser. Finally, ask which task you repeat: producing a new share, or managing the library behind many shares. You may choose to keep both apps.
Do not delete existing objects as part of the test. If you clean up, remove only the disposable object you created and check retention rules first.
Frequently asked questions
Does Dropshare support Cloudflare R2? Yes. Its official connection matrix lists R2 on macOS and its mobile apps.
Is Blob0 a screenshot recorder or annotation tool? No. It manages files in object storage. Use a capture tool when capture and markup are the main task.
Can I use both with the same bucket? They can each connect to storage you control, subject to your credentials and provider settings. Test with a disposable prefix, particularly if two tools may write the same object key.
