Blob0 vs CloudMounter: A Mac S3 Browser or a Mounted Cloud Drive?

Decide between CloudMounter's Finder mounted cloud drives and Blob0's dedicated R2/S3 file browser. Compare tasks, limits, and a simple test using your own bucket.

Both CloudMounter and Blob0 give Mac users a way to work with remote storage. CloudMounter brings supported services into Finder as drives. Blob0 opens R2 and S3-compatible buckets in a dedicated file manager. That difference matters more than a long feature checklist: do you need remote files to behave like Finder files, or do you need to inspect and organize objects in a bucket?

CloudMounter supports S3 and describes S3-compatible storage on its site. Compatibility with a specific S3 provider or feature still depends on its current connector and that provider's endpoint; verify your own setup rather than assuming every S3 feature behaves identically. Blob0 also depends on the permissions and behavior of the storage service you connect.

When CloudMounter is the better fit

Choose a mounter if you routinely open remote documents from Finder or from another application that expects filesystem paths. It is also a better starting point if the same Mac must show personal cloud drives and S3 in one Finder-based workflow. Blob0 cannot replace a Finder volume or CloudMounter's broader cloud-service coverage.

CloudMounter's S3 guide describes editing files on the mounted drive. If that is your main job, test how your editor saves large or frequently changed files over your actual network. This article does not claim that Blob0 performs that workflow faster or more reliably.

When Blob0 is the better fit

Choose a bucket browser if your recurring task is to locate objects, preview an asset before downloading, upload a revised file, move or copy keys, and generate a time-limited link. Blob0 is R2 first, includes S3-compatible presets, and stores credentials in macOS Keychain. Its CLI can perform object operations through a saved profile. The Mac S3 client page describes the current product workflow, and the R2 connection guide covers the fields and permissions needed for a first connection.

The current Blob0 free plan allows one connection. If you need multiple saved connections, review Blob0 pricing before committing to that setup. Check CloudMounter's current plans separately; prices and trials can change.

Try the same safe task in both apps

  1. Make a new test prefix in a bucket you are authorized to use. Give the test credentials only the permissions the task needs.
  2. In CloudMounter, mount the S3 connection, find a test file in Finder, and open it with the application you actually use.
  3. In Blob0, browse the same prefix, preview a supported file, upload one small disposable asset, and inspect it in the storage dashboard. If sharing is part of your work, create a short-lived link and test it with the intended recipient.
  4. Record which steps you repeat every week. The answer may be one tool for Finder editing and another for bucket administration.

Only remove the disposable object you created, after checking retention rules.

Frequently asked questions

Does Blob0 put R2 or S3 files in Finder? No. It presents a bucket in its app and through its CLI.

Is CloudMounter only for Amazon S3? No. Its official product page lists several cloud storage and remote-service connections.

Will either app create an R2 account for me? No. Bring your own storage account and appropriate access credentials. Provider charges are separate from the client.
